Eastern Wood is a culture media company seeking to introduce Chinese science fiction to the global market. Our co-founders, Hans and Lynn, are science fiction enthusiasts and are fluent in both Chinese and English. They are well-versed in the Chinese Sci-Fi genre and found it meaningful to create a platform for Chinese Sci-Fi writers to publish their stories and reach an international audience.
As a Singaporean brand under Potato Production Group, we have greater freedom and objectivity in assessing the works we receive, allowing us to bring the best of Chinese Sci-Fi to readers. In bridging Chinese Sci-Fi with the English-speaking market, we hope to showcase the elements of Chinese culture as well as the modern technological advancements of the East.
We allow two types of submissions for science fiction of varying lengths. One according to our ongoing theme’s guidelines, and the other a general collection where writers are free to submit works of any theme. Followed by a selection and curation process based on the authenticity of their Sci-Fi elements and Chinese culture.
We plan to select 30-50 works per year and will obtain full or partial copyright from the authors. We will then seek co-publishing opportunities with a local or international publishing house to have our works published, either in the form of an anthology with short stories and novellas, or as a book or a series of a longer novel. We hope to publish the works in the original Chinese language and in English, translated by our translators. We are also considering publishing in other languages in the future.
In addition to the collection and translation aspect of our work, we are also open to licence our works for other media adaptations. Apart from digital and physical publications, we will also licence our works for audiobooks, audio drama, comic serialisation, animation, film production, games, and others. We believe in reaching a bigger audience through our partnerships by adapting the notable works of our authors to other media types.
Currently, our company aims to publish curated stories through submissions via our science fiction literature channel. In time to come, we hope to build our reputation and gain a reader base before advancing to an online literature platform where we allow our writers to post their stories freely and for our readers to support their favourite authors directly. We hope to create a space where writers with great potential can shine as we connect and share unique Chinese Sci-Fi with our global readers.
