About Us

Our Company

Eastern Wood is a hybrid science fiction publisher and literature platform based in Singapore. We own and represent full or partial copyrights of our sci-fi works and seek collaborations to adapt them into multimedia formats, bringing them to a wider audience.

Our Vision

To bridge Chinese science fiction and the English-speaking market, and to provide a platform where writers are free to express themselves. We hope to broaden the influence of Chinese storytelling through partnerships, multimedia adaptations, and other innovative explorations.

Our Mission

To curate a selection of high-quality Chinese science fiction based on the authenticity of their sci-fi elements and accuracy to Chinese culture. To translate and distribute the works to a global audience, and engage the community by connecting cultures through written words.

Who We Are

We are a small, independent literary agency and hybrid publisher with a team of up to ten members. Our founder and director, Hans Lee, is also the head of our parent company group, Potato Productions. Hans is a Chinese Singaporean with a strong passion for science fiction, Chinese culture, and modern technology—a combination that led him to co-found Eastern Wood with Lynn Sun.

Lynn is a seasoned editor from China, who has worked in top-rated science fiction cultural companies (similar to literary agencies), leading web novel companies as a head editor, and top-tier publishing houses in China. She was also the translation director for the 2024 Chinese edition of Road to Science Fiction, a project that took years to complete and firmly established her career in the field. At Eastern Wood, Lynn serves as our head and manages the company’s operations.

How We Operate

Publishing & Collaboration

We publish our Chinese original works in Singapore, though we are open to licensing them to Chinese publishers in China or collaborating directly with Chinese distributors and bookstores.

For our English translation works, we are actively seeking publishing partners—either locally or from a larger Anglophone market, such as the UK or the US. Currently, the languages used on our website are British English and Simplified Chinese (China).

Our Standard for Sci-fi

As science fiction fans from young, we are eager to uncover the ultimate truths of the world and explore different interpretations of how reality works. With this in mind, our sci-fi is more than surface-level storytelling with sci-fi elements.

We do not distinguish between genre fiction (类型文学) and literary fiction (纯文学)—as long as the ideas, storytelling, or characters are outstanding and the writing captivates us, we will support it!

Currently, we only accept works in Chinese from China, as we believe this unique focus helps us stand out. We have strong connections with top authors in China and operate without the restrictions and censorship there (though we do not accept stories that promote biases against any nationality, religion, gender, or race).

We hope to introduce some truly exceptional Chinese stories to the rest of the world!

How We Present Our Works

After a year of exploring our identity, we have decided to position ourselves as a literary agency and hybrid publisher. Our goal is to see our works printed in physical form.

While our stories make great reads, we envision them being enjoyed in a dedicated reading environment—where you are in the right mood to immerse yourself in something profound. We believe physical books are the best medium for this kind of experience.

That said, all of our works can still be read online here (they are currently free, but we may transition to a paid model in the future).
